About Us

Built in 1947, the railcar was originally designed as a passenger coach for the Canadian National rail line. In 1965, it was converted into a dining car to serve increased passenger traffic during Expo 67. It continued operating on the transcontinental line until the 1980s, when it was retired.

In 1989, a dedicated group of volunteers brought the car to High River as part of a larger collection of railcars and restored it for use as a restaurant. The Dining Car at High River Station was established in 1993 and has been in continuous operation ever since.

A complete restoration in 2018 brought the interior, exterior, and kitchen back to their former glory, including an upgraded and expanded commercial kitchen and a return to its classic 1960s-style décor.

Since February 2026, the Dining Car has been proudly owned and operated by Connie and Dan, who are committed to honouring its history while building its next chapter.
